Pre-Requisite Requirements

 

Before a person receives Level A (Nominated Person) training, their employer shall confirm the person meets the following:

Meets the pre-requisites as set out below in the Level B (authorised Person):

  • Must be over 18 years of age;
  • Must hold a current valid certificate in First Aid for Electrical Accidents.  Please be advised that a copy of the First Aid certification will need to be provided to Intertrain prior to the day of the training or brought to the course and shown to the trainer at the start of the course.  If no certification is provided, candidate will not be eligible to attend the course; and 
  • Must possess adequate written and verbal communication skills in English, to a level necessary to avoid danger; and
  • Must hold and bring valid Sentinel Smartcard endorsed with PTS AC at level 3 (competent) and has done so for 12 months; and
  • Must have had a minimum of 12 months relevant workplace experience (which can be evidenced) in an OLE Maintenance team or Construction team; or have successfully completed a company development programme which has received written acceptance by the Network Technical Head of Contact System.
  • Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements to minimum medical level 4 plus Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/0120 (Drugs & Alcohol).

In addition to the above, candidates:

Must hold current Level B (Authorised Person) certification in the relevant competence at Level 3 (competent); and

Must have at least 2 years demonstratable experience of completing the duties of a competent Level B (Authorised Person) in the relevant competence.  The experience shall be demonstrated through a minimum of 12 entries recorded in the person's logbook following the probationary period and once the person has been assessed as fully competent; or have previously held Level A (Nominated Person) within 2 years, in the relevant competence at Level 3 (competent) or higher and has written permission to proceed with the training from the Network Head of Contact Systems 

Must bring NR/SP/ELP/29987 Working on or Around 25kV AC Electrified lines.

Must bring Full PPE Visibility clothing to RIS-3279-TOM standard (upper and lower body), hard hat, Safety boots with full ankle/mid-sole protection/steel cap toes, gloves and safety glasses.

 

Please advise of any special needs i.e. dyslexia in advance of the course.

Must Bring Photo ID - For British Nationals, one of the following (original hard copy - not electronically): a current and valid branded form of identity token, used for accessing the RMI (Railway Maintained Infrastructure) such as a Sentinel Card; in-date and valid full driving licence; in-date and valid UK Provisional Photo Card Driving Licence; in-date and valid passport, a UK biometric ID Card/Residence Permit (BRP), an Armed Forces Identity Card, a proof of age card recognised under PASS with a unique reference number (this includes the Citizen ID Card), N.I. Electoral Identity Card or a resident permit as per Home Office guidance.

For Non-British Nationals - an in-date and valid passport, Identity Card or Driving Licence from an EU or European Economic Area (EEA) country or a US Passport Card is required (original hard copy - not electronically).

It is the Sponsors responsibility to ensure candidates booked onto the course are eligible for the training they are to receive and in line with any relevant medical level or restriction that may apply, in accordance with NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.

 

Please be aware that candidates will be treated on a training event as if they are at work and they must comply with the relevant medical policy and bring their Sentinel Smartcard which will be swiped at the start of the course.

 

Overview

Course Aims:

At the end of the course the candidates will be able to:

Carry out Nominated Persons AC duties under the guidance of a mentor to the required standard. The Nominated Person will fully understand the dangers of working on and around the overhead line system. The Nominated Person will also be able to read OHLE drawings and be fully conversant with the wiring instructions. These duties can only be performed under the guidance of a fully qualified Nominated Person or a Mentor.

Course designed for:
Sentinel track safety card holders who are required to undertake the duties of a Nominated Person duties on the railway infrastructure.

Location: Doncaster

Learning approach:
Classroom based instruction followed by practical assessment followed by knowledge based test

Course pre-requisites:
All delegates must meet the required current level in the medical and Drugs & Alcohol standards. Continued sponsorship from Network Rail, Authorised and link up approved supplier is also a requirement. And have had two years experience as an A/P

Equipment requirements:
Candidates who attend the course must be in possession of full PPE including the candidates PTS, This equipment must be available on the first day of attendance of the Nominated Person course. All other equipment will be supplied by Intertrain (UK) Ltd; this includes all relevant local earths and long blue earths, testing equipment and any relevant certification for the equipment.

Documentation requirements:
All delegates should be in possession of the AC module of the rulebook & if possible a copy of SP/ELP/29987. All other relevant documentation will be supplied by Intertrain (UK) Ltd.

Additional information:
On successful completion of the Nominated Person course application will be made to the Sentinel database. This will come in the form of an electrification card which is to be used in conjunction with the candidates PTS.

NP competence is valid for 3 years provided successful completion of a worksite assessment is undertaken.
