Pre-Requisite Requirements


This is a two-day course. Delegates are required to complete the full course to be eligible for certification.

This refresher course is only for delegates who have previously passed the five-day SMSTS or subsequent refresher course, and hold a valid SMSTS certificate. Evidence must be provided to the training provider of their eligibility. If an individual cannot be located on the system and no evidence of their certificate can be found, they will have to attend the full SMSTS course. Failure to attend the refresher course prior to the expiry of an existing certificate will require delegates to re-enter the scheme by completing the full SMSTS course if they wish to remain in the scheme.

Please ensure that delegates arrive in good time for the start of the course. In the event that individuals arrive after the stated start time, they may be excluded from the event and the full fee will be charged.

Delegates attending this course must have sufficient command of English language both written and verbal to allow delegates to address the assessment requirements of the qualification. Please advise of any special needs i.e. Dyslexia in advance of the course.

The workbook will be issued at the start of the course.

A copy of the Delegate Information Form will be issued to candidates during the course. Please ensure this is completed in full prior to the last day of the course and handed to the trainer. Please note that delegates must have a valid individual email address that is unique to the delegate. Group email addresses are not acceptable.

All delegates are required to show photographic identification to the trainer, such as a passport, driving license, or work ID. You will not be permitted to sit your exam without photographic proof of ID. If you have any queries on this, please contact us before your course.

The trainer will conduct an exam with all delegates. The exam time is 35 minutes and delegates are permitted to refer to the supporting publication, Construction site safety (GE700), during the last 15 minutes of the examination period. The pass mark is 81% (26 questions out of 32). Delegates would be eligible for a resit should they achieve a mark between 72-78% (23, 24 or 25 out of 32). Only one attempt of a resit is allowed and may take place on the same day or by attending the final day of another course within a 90 day period. If a delegate fails the resit, they must take the whole course again. Any delegate scoring less than 69% (22 out of 32) will fail the final exam and must sit the whole course again.

Delegates are asked to bring their CSCS Card Number and their National Insurance Number. If you are a CITB levy payer please provide your 7 digit levy number.

Candidates are recommended to wear smart casual clothing. Candidates are asked to bring their CSCS Card Number and their National Insurance Number. Candidates may also wish to bring an assortment of their own pens, pencils and highlighters.

Lunch is not provided on the course, however, complimentary tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch; welfare facilities are available. You will also be made aware of local food outlets on the day.

Delegates successfully completing the course will be awarded a CITB Construction Site Management Safety Training Scheme Certificate valid for a further five years. (Certificates will be sent as digital PDF’s – please be aware that hard copy certificates will not be sent).

Overview

The Site management safety training scheme – Refresher (SMSTS-R) is a two-day course for delegates who have previously passed the full Site management safety training scheme (SMSTS) course or subsequent refresher course, and can provide proof of attendance.

It aims to bring health and safety knowledge up-to-date, as well as giving a thorough overview of the legislative changes and their impact in the workplace.
