Practice Requirement PTS
NR/L2/CTM/021 V5 Competence Practice Requirements Blog

 

In March of 2025 the Sentinel scheme rules were updated to Version 5.1, clause 3.4.4 states that All individuals shall provide their Sentinel card (virtual or physical) for swipe in before they undertake work on the infrastructure, this means that all PTS card holder should have been swiped in every shift they have undertaken since March, NR/L2/CTM/021 Version 5 was issued in September with a compliance date of 06th December 2025 and within this standard the practice requirements for Track Safety Sentinel competencies has changed and there are some important update you need to know before booking training.

PTS Requirements~

From the 6th December 2025 (inclusive) PTS holders attending a PTS recertification training event must meet the requirements of NR/L2/CTM/021 and have 8 practice requirements with 4 being in the previous 12 months

 

Site Warden Requirements~

From the 6th December 2025 (inclusive) SW holders attending a SW recertification training event must meet the requirements of NR/L2/CTM/021 and have 8 practice requirements with 4 being in the previous 12 months

 

COSS Transitional Requirements~

  • In the first 12 months from go live (6th Dec 2025) a COSS will need to demonstrate a minimum of 4 practice requirements in a 12-month period (This is the same as now).
  • From 5th December 2026, a COSS increased requirements of 10 practice requirements in a 12-month period.

 

COSS Requirements from Dec 26~

Must meet the requirement in NR/L2/CTM/021 of 10 practice requirements in 12 months and 20 in 24 months or by recertification event

Physical logbook entries (Bluebook) can still be used past the 6th of December 2025 as long as they meet the validity requirements and are dated before the 6th December 2025, any practice requirements records from the 06th December 2025 must be Sentinel Log Book records and show the specific competence, PTS will be deemed to have been used if any other competence that relies on PTS as a base competence is recorded i.e. SW records will be accepted for PTS recertification.
